local warming jacket

100% recycled consumer polyester

material

Our Local Warming Jacket is made from our recycled Ultra fabric, which is actually 2 polyester fabrics that are bonded together. The inside is fleecy and soft, the outside is smooth. Both are made from recycled plastic.

Taiwan has been serious about recycling plastic bottles since the early 1990s – way in advance of the rest of us. In fact, they have a mandatory recycling system for household waste.

Why are they so strict about it? Well as an island nation that has ‘cool’ relations with neighbouring China (where much of the developed world sends its rubbish), maybe they just don’t want to see their island become one massive landfill.

manufacture

Our tops are made in a factory in Istanbul. It’s a modern building with good facilities for the staff.

If you would like to know exactly where it is, click here.

design

The Local Warming Jacket is designed to be an all-purpose throw-on top. Sadly, for a lot of us, popping out to the coffee shop may be the most adventure we see during the day – but throw on the Local Warming Jacket and you might convince yourself you’re off for a quick hike somewhere exciting. OK, maybe not, but at least you’ll be warm and comfy.

Features:
Soft feel
Warm breathable fabric
Embroidered details on the chest and neck
Hidden zip pockets and internal pouches

etc...

We’ve tried quite hard for our first range, but some things were a little out of our reach this time. We know what they are, so we’re working to improve them next time.

Zips – we tried to use an ‘eco’ zip but it was just too expensive and troublesome to get (a special order from Japan). Right now, it’s just a niche product, but hopefully our zip manufacturer will try to make it more widely available (and more affordable).

Sewing thread – we were not able to find a decent alternative to the polyester thread that our factory uses.

Labels – our labels are either standard polyester (for care labels) or [organic] cotton (for the neck label).
