We’ve just finished the London Marathon Expo where we got to speak to loads of runners from different backgrounds. We met one of the only people to have done every London Marathon since it was founded in 1981. He told me there are 25 of them left and one of them is still under 50 – and still under 2 hours. Pretty amazing stuff.

We also got to meet Tristan Miller, who’s running 52 Marathons in 52 weeks all over the world. He’s doing it to raise money for UNICEF – which Jun worked at for a year, so he has a soft spot for them. You can check out his website at RunLikeCrazy.com. We gave him some free clothes to help him on his epic journey (see below…Tristan’s on the right, and you can see the reflective print on our everywear tops working well too!).

Dan likes to cycle. Which is fortunate, since he’s on his way to Chembakolli, India with 2 wheels and a lot of pedaling. He left from Richmond on 18th July and is making his way through Europe as we speak. He is literally on his own with a tent. And, Why? Well, apart from Danger Dan’s spirit for adventure, he’s raising money for Action Aid. You can support him by visiting his fundraising page – justgiving.com/dannybent.

Yew were there to see him off and ride the first few miles with him. We also produced a special shirt for him to wear during his journey. Follow his exploits on his blog: http://mrbent.blogspot.com.

I remember this event really well, and watching it on video now still makes me well up. It tells a story of determination, crushed hopes and dreams, and courage. Whatever reason drove Derek to make it round, it inspires each of us. Anyone that’s worked hard, trained hard and pushed hard for something can relate – even if you’ve never run a race in your life. The struggle, the challenge is something everyone recognizes. Of course, what makes it even more moving is his father chasing him down the track, first to tell him to stop, then to support him all the way.

“Well, if you are going to finish this race, we’ll finish it together.”

Sustrans, the cycling charity, is promoting their Change Your World campaign between 29 June to 4 July. During that period, they’re asking people to sway 1 car journey for walking, cycling, taking public transport or even car-sharing. It doesn’t sound like much for many people, but for many people this would be a massive change. I guess the idea is to see if you can do it once – because then you can do it again and again.

Today (June 10), sees London in the middle of a Tube strike. Whatever way you look at it, that’s going to cause chaos. Some 3 million tube journeys are taken every weekday in London. Now, stack that up against the 11 million journeys taken by car or motorcycle. It’s pretty likely that the Tube strike will lead to a few more people driving today. However, it’ll also lead more people to walk and cycle, and hopefully realise it’s not so bad. And if you can swap one journey, you can certainly swap a few more.

So, here’s a picture from over the May Bank Holiday in the Lake District. We climbed up Haystacks and then on to Seat, where I’m pictured. Sitting down. I thought, I should really put a picture up , but didn’t want anyone to think that this was a ‘top of the mountain’ pic. It’s a decent walk up (we did 7 hours worth, but you don’t need to go that far) and the views are priceless. You don’t have to be a professional athlete to do it, but you do have to get off that sofa and put your boots on. Some of our clothing wouldn’t hurt either.
